Wife of Ortagion of the Tolistoboii of Galatia, Chiomara was captured when the Romans invaded Galatia in 189 BC under Gnaeus Manlius Volso. The capturing romans raped her and demanded ransom upon discovering her royal identity. Chiomara strategically waited until the gold exchange was midway to calmly decapitate her captor, carry his head as trophy to her husband, the king, in typical Celtic fashion. Plutarch describes the exchange:
“Woman, a fine thing [is] good faith.”
“[A] better thing, only one man alive who had intercourse with me.”
